| Whats in it? The beauty of each colour-couture pieces starts from the very beginning. To me it's simple logic, to create high quality pieces that will stand the test of time; high quality materials and techniques must be used. Hopefully this glossary will shed some light on what goes into creating colour couture exclusive jewellery. |
| Beading materials Silver Each colour couture exclusive creation is designed to last, so I only use sterling silver for all my finishing. On the rare occasion when silver-plated finishing is used, this is always specified. Sterling silver is an alloy containing 92.5% weight of silver and 7.5% of other metal usually copper. This is the standard of silver. Sterling silver is durable and last provided it is properly cared for. Silver plated has only a thin layer of silver over another type of metal. This layer does not last long and with time scratches off to reveal the metal underneath. I love Hill tribe silver jewellery and this is used in many of my creations. Hill tribe silver is hand-crafted by the Hill tribes of Thailand. It is made with fine silver (silver content of 97.5-99%). Gold I also do not use gold-plated material in my creations as its is not very durable. I use Gold-filled or Vermeil materials. Gold filled contains approximately 100 times more gold than gold plated. Unlike Gold-plated material, gold filled does not tarnish or rub off. Vermeil is sterling silver with a layer of gold on top.
